Surrey Pilates
I have been teaching exercise in the fitness industry since 1997. Originally, I started in fitness clubs, teaching aerobics, conditioning, step, aqua aerobics and stability ball classes. I also specialised in teaching pre/post natal exercise and exercise for older adults.
You find me on the Modern Pilates and Body Control Pilates® websites, where my qualifications are registered. You will also find me on the Register of Exercise Professionals - as a specialist instructor I have been awarded Level 4 status.
Currently, I run my own Pilates classes in Ewell and Epsom and offer tuition on a one to one basis. My classes have progressed and I am now able to offer classes for different levels of ability. Private session can be at my clients homes or at my own home, where I have a Pilates equipment room with a Reformer with a Tower and a Spine Corrector. I also teach on studio equipment at Epsom Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic. Whilst teaching Pilates is my main focus, I continue to teach general exercise classes for health clubs/leisure centres.
Through Pilates, I have improved my own inner strength, body shape, posture and body awareness. I have also had the benefit of rehabilating my own shoulders using the reformer and cadillac (tower). Pilates has allowed me to enhance performance in other types of exercise, as well as keep my back and abdominal muscles strong for daily living. I have had the pleasure of witnessing my clients also improve their own strength, posture and body awareness and in some cases clients have eased or even lost back/shoulder pain they have suffered from for years.
I have taught Pilates in clubs and leisure centres, but have found the progression of participants is limited, due to mixed abilities and large class numbers. This was frustrating for both the participants and me! By running my own classes I am to offer progression at appropriate levels, which in turn will lead to better performance and understanding of the exercises. Class numbers are strictly limited to allow me to give personal attention to clients. I aim to make all those who attend my classes feel at ease and to create a non-competitive environment.

I qualified in 2002 with Modern Pilates as a Mat Work Instructor and in 2004 as an Advanced Practitioner. I further trained in teaching Pre/Post Natal Pilates.
In order to further develop my teaching skills, in 2006 I trained and qualified with Body Control Pilates . In 2009 I achieved the Certificate in Exercise for the Managment of Low Back Pain with Premier Training. I have since qualified to teach on The Pilates Reformer and The Cadillac with Body Control Pilates .
My training and self development as a teacher is continual. I am inspired by all that I learn and want to share it with my clients. I regularly attend workshops and have 1:1 Pilates sessions for myself. I see ongoing training as essential in order to be up to date with the latest developments in the industry.
I am able to draw on my experience from the different styles of Pilates training. Modern Pilates combine
physiotherapy techniques with traditional Pilates, whilst Body Control Pilates ® offer a step by step progression towards the traditional Pilates exercises. I have learnt most of all from my clients, there is no substitue for experience.
To achieve my qualifications, I have had to prove my ability to teach safe, effective group classes, showing good observation and correction skills; as well as displaying an understanding of how to progress my classes. I have also proved my abilities to correctly assess the posture and screen an individual client and prescribe suitable exercises.
