Pelvic Health
When we have good pelvic health, we can be pain free, control our bladder and bowel movements, enjoy sexual activity, and experience a full recovery from childbirth or other pelvic-related issues. We need a strong and well-functioning pelvic floor muscle system, which supports the bladder, bowel, and uterus.
Lifestyle, age, hormonal changes, posture, and trauma are just some of the many factors that can affect our pelvic health. Pelvic floor muscle function and the integrity of our skin tissue can change over time, and surrounding structures and muscles can be adversely affected.
Maintaining good pelvic health routines, including healthy bladder and bowel habits, a balanced diet, and regular exercise, is crucial for overall well-being.
What sort of issues can arise from poor pelvic health?
Here are some examples:
- Leaking with coughing, sneezing or exercising
- Urinary urgency or needing to go to the toilet frequently
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Vaginal dryness
- Painful sex
- Bowel issues, including constipation, diarrhoea and wind
- Prostate issues
- Back Pain
Issues surrounding the pelvic floor are common, but many people don’t seek help. This is often because they’re unsure where to turn or don’t realise support is available.
I'm a certified Adore Your Pelvic Floor Coach, which means I’ve received specialised training in pelvic health, helping women and men understand, connect with, and safely strengthen this vital area of the body.
